LYRA String Quartet
Raymond Leung Raymond Leung has been a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 1992. He has held positions in both violin sections, and served as Acting Assistant Concertmaster in 2006- 07. He has also held the position of Principal Second Violinist with the Gwinnet Philharmonic for the past 13 years; this past season he performed as soloist with this ensemble. He is also a founding member of the LYRA String Quartet, currently String Quartet in Residence of the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Prior to his appointment with the ASO, Raymond was a member of the Lockerbie String Quartet, in residence at Butler University and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and he performed with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Chicago Ensemble.

A native of Hong Kong, Leung debuted as soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic at the age of 15. In 1979, he performed with the Hong Kong Youth Symphony as Soloist and Concertmaster in a three- week concert tour to France and the United Kingdom. He has since been invited numerous times to perform recitals at Hong Kong City Hall. In 2007 he was asked to perform as Concertmaster with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta on a 3 week tour to Shanghai, Hong Kong and in Tokyo as part of the popular annual festival, La Folle Journee. Mr. Leung will again be returning as Concertmaster for 2 weeks this season.

Mr. Leung’s first visit to the United States was on full scholarship to the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan; he returned to the U.S. two years later, again on a full scholarship to the North Carolina School of the Arts. Mr. Leung holds a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Wisconsin at Madison, a Master of Music degree from Indiana University at Bloomington, and an Artist Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music. His principal teachers have been Vartan Manoogian, Yuval Yaron and David Cerone.

A regular member of the Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson, Wyoming since 1991, Mr. Leung has been a guest artist at the Brightstar Music Festival in North Carolina, and has held faculty positions as Principal Overseas Instructor for the Hong Kong International Youth Music Camp, at the Madeline Island Chamber Music Camp in Wisconsin, the Chamber Music Workshop at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, and Clayton State University in Atlanta.
