About LYRA Atlanta
Have you ever had an urge to get out your instrument, the one you used to enjoy playing in high school or college, but that you just don't seem to have time for anymore? If you have, you might consider a new avenue of expression--the Meetup group LYRA Atlanta.
We've started this group as a networking tool for chamber music lovers at all levels who want to meet like - minded individuals in Atlanta. We aim to facilitate the process of gathering for playing sessions, both by providing music and helping to organize venues for these events. We want to do it on a regular basis here in Atlanta, and by making these regular events, creating a fun, interactive learning experience.
We launched our first "Evenings of Chamber Music at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center" event in 2006 to attract all chamber musicians-- student, professional, amateur and semi- professional-- at all levels who wanted to gather together to read, discuss, or even perform chamber music. Since then our "Evenings" have gained popularity among music lovers throughout metropolitan Atlanta. To this end we began our Meetup group, LYRA Atlanta, in May of 2010. We feel that this is a unique opportunity for musicians of all levels and walks of life to come and participate.
We want your Meetup experience through LYRA Atlanta to be one that is fulfilling and fun. Our aim is to get our members actively involved and to let the music come alive.... and not let it sit in a music library collecting dust! How many works are out there waiting to be discovered and read through, explored and maybe even performed? With the right resources, that is possible.
LYRA, Inc. has been a nonprofit arts organization existence since 2000; our residency at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center began in 2003 and continues to this day. Through our interactive concert series, educational initiatives into the community and into schools throughout the Southeast, our mission is to raise the level of awareness and accessibility of classical music in our present- day society.
We offer an extensive chamber music library and can help people meet up to arrange chamber music parties.
"Without a doubt that concert was the most motivating event that my students experienced during the school year."

-- Janalyn Lindley, Director, Forest Park HS, Clayton Cty, May 1999
"I thought that the LYRA Quartet's presentation was one of the most influencial and heartfelt performances that I've ever seen. It was also great that they gave us a private lesson and offered to help us. I would love to see more of them"

-- Student, Sutton MS, Fulton Cty, April 2002
"I really loved the Quartet's presentation. It really made me think about my career as a musician"

-- Student, DCA-funded outreach to Shamrock MS, April 2002
"...you shared such a high level of musical artistry with the children...we cannot capture in words the impact that being in the presence of such artistry may have, or the lasting impressions left by seeing such serious musicians at work."

-- David Myers, Director, Center for Educational Partnerships, GSU, December 2002
